The Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum recently launched an online petition seeking support for designating 2010 as “The Year of Mark Twain.” The year marks the centenary of the death of Mark Twain, who died April 21, 1910. It will also mark the 175th anniversary of Twain’s birth, November 30, 1835. The Museum is seeking at least 50,000 signatures, an average of 1,000 per state, to submit to President Obama in making this request. A link to the petition is available on the Museum’s website: www.marktwainmuseum.org.“The year 2010 presents an opportunity for us to honor Mark Twain and further preserve his legacy,” said Museum interim executive director, Dr. Cindy Lovell. “We are collaborating with the Hannibal Convention and Visitors Bureau and the other Twain sites around the country to plan ongoing events throughout this important year. There is a lot of work to do, which is why we’re starting now.”
Supporters are encouraged to log on, sign the petition, and send it on to family and friends.
