The Mark Twain Boyhood Home will be featured on the cover of the new 2009 AT&T Real Yellow Pages directory serving the Hannibal area. More than 27,000 copies of this AT&T Real Yellow Pages directory have been produced for distribution this year, and delivery runs Feb. 11-17. The directory also will be available to new residents and businesses throughout the year. The unveiling will take place this Friday at 10 a.m. in front of the Mark Twain Boyhood Home at 206 Hill Street in Hannibal. In attendance will be State Rep. Rachel Bringer, who is also a Mark Twain Museum Board Member and state Sen. Wes Shoemyer.
The Mark Twain Boyhood Home is an important historic landmark in Hannibal. The Clemens family lived there from 1844 to 1853. The house was donated to the city of Hannibal in 1912 and has been drawing visitors from around the world since then. About 50, 000 tourists come to Hannibal each year, drawn by their interest in Mark Twain. The Boyhood Home is one of eight properties cared for by the Mark Twain Home Foundation, six of which are on the National Register of Historic Places.
“We are thrilled to see the Boyhood Home featured on the cover of our local director,” said Dr. Cindy Lovell, executive director of the museum. “Mark Twain had a love-hate relationship with the telephone, so we believe he would be especially proud with this particular honor. We’re also grateful to AT&T for its generosity in helping to fund our new phone system. This kind of support is critical to ensuring that the legacy of Mark Twain is preserved for future generations.”
AT&T Real Yellow Pages directories are recyclable, and the paper used to print the directories contains recycled materials. The remaining paper fiber comes from residual sawdust created through lumber processing operations. Residents and businesses can visit Keep America Beautiful online at www.kab.org for recycling information in this community.
