Museum Says Farewell to Marketing & Community Relations Manager

The Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum announces that Ryan Murray, Marketing and Community Relations Manager, has accepted a position at the University of Missouri-Columbia as a Career Specialist.  Murray, who held the marketing position for nearly three years, enjoyed a farewell send-off with staff and friends at the Museum on his last day, October 27, 2011.

“Ryan brought a lot of energy, creativity, and enthusiasm to the Museum, and we are going to miss him tremendously,” said Cindy Lovell, executive director.  “He will be hard to replace, and since we are entering our slow season the executive staff will absorb his duties until visitation picks up again.  Ryan’s positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to tackle any new idea were tremendous assets, and we’ll be looking for those qualities when we advertise his position in the spring.”

“Leaving the Museum was not an easy decision,” said Murray.  “It was my first position out of college and the best jumping off place I could imagine.  The friends I’ve made and people I’ve met have made lasting impressions that will last a lifetime.  I’m leaving with many great memories but will certainly return to visit.”

Murray’s duties included working with the media, publicity, public relations, advertising, design work, event planning, and scheduling admission staff.  He also coordinated the Museum’s volunteer program.  Murray coordinated and promoted many significant events at the Museum, such as Hal Holbrook’s performance, Ralph Stanley’s performance, the release of the Mark Twain: Words & Music CD, and a trivia night fundraiser.

At his send-off party, friends and colleagues gathered to wish him well in his new position and urged him to return for visits.

“Ryan and I have worked together on many projects,” said board member Sally Poole.  “All of us in the community will miss him. We wish him the very best in his new position.”
