Grilling in the Garden Program Huge Success!

The Mark Twain Museum Grilling in the Garden event was a hit for Hannibal. Ken Norman entertained guests and their taste buds with his culinary expertise as local band, Music-Music-Music performed smooth jazz.

Ken Norman was assisted by family, friends and several other volunteers including Larry Hensick of Kroger. Music-Music-Music is comprised of Brother Ronn Pashia, Glenn Cornelius, Bill Cornelius and Tommy Williams.

The event was held in the Mark Twain Boyhood Home Garden on September 10. Due to the overwhelming interest, other similar events are being planned for the future.

On September 20th the Museum will hold an endowment fundraising event hosted by the 2009-2010 Tom and Becky ambassadors.  The Museum Gallery will be the site of a fried chicken picnic-style dinner on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 1:00 p.m.  The new Toms and Beckys will serve as hosts and hostesses for the event and will each speak on behalf of the Mark Twain Museum.  Special guest for the event will be Pulitzer prize-winning author and Hannibal native, Ron Powers, who will also give a brief talk.

The cost for the dinner is $15, with proceeds going to the Museum’s endowment fund. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

In addition to the picnic, that evening the Museum will host a wine and cheese reception honoring Powers at the loft apartment of Mark Twain Museum Board Member, Kristy Trevathan. Powers will be available to sign copies of his works and collaborations including, the recently released, True Compass by the late Senator Ted Kennedy.

The cost of the event is $20 and will go to support the Museum's endowment fund.  The Museum has launched a major fundraising goal - the "10 by 10" campaign to raise the endowment to $10 million by the end of 2010.  Reservations can be made by calling 573-221-9010, ext. 401.
