Description

Join Dr. Cindy Lovell for a special screening of "High Lonesome: The Story of Bluegrass Music" on Saturday, April 17th from 2:00 to 4:00 at the Museum Gallery.  In two weeks the Museum will be opening its exhibit on American Roots Music, and this is a great way to get into the spirit!

This 1991 documentary tells the story of Bill Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass, and his musical legacy. Monroe's Scottish ancenstry and Appalachian roots are explored with beautiful footage of his Kentucky home, festival performances, and spellbinding stories.  The film in narrated by Mac Wiseman and includes performances by Jimmy Martin, Flatt & Scrugss, the Osborne Brothers and Alison Krauss.

Dr. Lovell worked for Bill Monroe when she was in her early teens.  She will faciliate a brief discussion after the film.  This program is free to associate members, $5 for non-members.  Call Mai at 573-221-9010, ext. 401 to reserve your seat.

Description

The Mark Twain Museum Gallery is a two-story facility that includes interactive exhibits of five of Twain's greatest works, 15 original Norman Rockwell paintings, and numerous Clemens family treasures.  Events are held throughout: in the auditorium, the board room overlooking the Mississippi River, the Rockwell Gallery, and the exhibit area.  Plan an event at the Museum Gallery by calling 573-221-9010, ext. 401 or 404.
