As we join with our families to cheer on Little League teams, take summer vacations, and splash around in the pool, please take a moment to think of those children who do not have a family to share such times. In Missouri, there are approximately 1,500 children awaiting adoption. These children encompass every age, race, and gender, but on the inside they are the same. They are full of love, wonder, and the hope that one day their forever families will find them. In essence of this, The Mark Twain Home Foundation, the Hannibal Arts Council, Hannibal CASA and the Missouri Department of Social Services Children’s Division would like to present the Hannibal Heart Gallery. For the fourth year, the Heart Gallery will travel across the state featuring professional photographs of Missouri foster children awaiting adoption. These photos capture the hearts and souls of the children. The Heart Gallery features 238 children in 188 photos. The Children's Division of the Department of Social Services partners with the Adoption Exchange of Missouri to host the gallery. The gallery concept began in New Mexico several years ago and has spread to several states, as it has proven to be a very successful way to help children and families come together. Whether you've been considering adoption or not, I encourage you to come see the gallery while it is in town. The gallery will be at the MarkTwainMuseum and the Hannibal Arts Council from July 2nd through July 10th.There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony held at the MarkTwainMuseum on July 2nd at 10:00 a.m. In addition, there will be a reception held at the Hannibal Arts Council on July 2nd from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and at the MarkTwainMuseum from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. During the MarkTwainMuseum reception, Greghri Love will present on his recent memoir, There Is An Urgency, documenting his childhood of intense abuse. Everyone is encouraged to visit the gallery while it is in town and consider the possibility of completing your family with a child in need.
