Description
The Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum, in partnership with the Missouri Humanities Council, presents the Smithsonian Institution's New Horizons exhibition: American Roots Music. Through a selection of photographs, recordings, instruments, lyrics and artist profiles, the exhibit explores the distinct cultural identities of gospel, bluegrass, blues, country, Native American and other forms of roots music as they record and shape the history of the American people and form the foundation for other musical genres appreciated around the world today.
Mark Twain was a great lover of the old spirituals and played the piano and guitar. Our own collection of Twain artifacts takes on an entirely new perspective when viewed through a musical lens. This hands-on, ears-on exhibit will have you humming an old favorite, tapping your toes, and digging through that collection of albums stored away in the basement. Come and celebrate America's musical heritage with us in 2010: "The Year of Mark Twain."
