Mark Twain Young Authors Workshop
This
program is co-sponsored by the HATS (High Achieving Talented Students)
Program at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida and the Mark Twain
Museum. Students presently in grades 5-8 (must be age 12 by time of workshop) are invited to submit their writing sample and a teacher recommendation.
Twelve students are awarded full scholarships (including airfare) to
spend a week in Hannibal, Missouri learning how Mark Twain used real
settings, real people, and real experiences to create his enduring
work.
Six students will be Hannibal residents; six will be from out of town. In 2010 funding was provided by the HATS Program at Stetson University, The Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation and The
George H. Riedel Private Foundation. The workshop is co-directed by Cindy Lovell,
museum director, and Henry Sweets, museum curator. Full details are available online at: http://www.stetson.edu/hats/MarkTwainYoungAuthors.php.
NOTE: We were unable to secure funding for Summer 2011 and 2012. We will try again for 2013. Thank you. (If you would like to make a contribution to support this program, please click here.)
