Governance There are two boards that have jurisdiction over the Mark Twain Museum Properties. The city-owned Mark Twain properties (The Boyhood Home, Judge Clemens Justice of the Peace Office, Grant's Drug Store/Pilaster House, and Tom and Huck Statue) are monitored by the Mark Twain Home Board. Today the Home Board is appointed by the city to administer the terms of the city lease with the Mark Twain Home Foundation. National Historic Landmarks are nationally significant historic places designated by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior for possesing exceptional value or quality in interpreting or illustrating the heritage of the United States. Today, less than 2,500 landmarks bear this distinction. "Partner Place" National Trust for Historic Preservation - October 2005 - The National Trust for Historic Preservation granted the Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum 'partner place' status in one of its newest programs. In order to be considered for 'Partner Place, and entity must convey and overall sense of historic entegrity, be owned by a nonprofit or government entity, and offer an educational or interpretive program related to the historic significance of the site.
